Animation to the Rescue

Miller St. Nazianz

It’s the middle of winter but you still need a marketing video for your new piece of agricultural equipment. Now what?

Miller St. Nazianz came to us with that problem recently and we knew right away that location taping was out of the question. The featured product was the Nitro 5000 Sprayer which looks great in a corn field in August but that wasn’t an option. Their all-important trade shows were starting in January so they had to have something now – and it had to be impressive.

Animation to the rescue.

We spent two months creating a Nitro 5000 and a corn field out of digits and pixels and delivered a finished 2-minute marketing piece in time for the first trade show of the season. As our animated camera flew around the new Nitro, we zoomed in to the comfortable cab, the long sprayer boom and the independent suspension.

And then, because the product is popular in the former soviet republics and Russia, we created a second version with Russian graphics.

Take a look at the finished video. You might decide you want one just to drive around the neighborhood.

Projects often start with a challenge.

And a challenge is what we faced when we started putting together a video to celebrate Badger Meter’s 100th anniversary.

Why?

Well, telling the story of the very early days of the company would take at least a minute or two of the video and the only visual we had was ONE 8×10 photo of the original building.

In the end we hired a couple of actors and rented an old warehouse to recreate the founding of the company – and Badger’s CEO Rich Meeusen showed up on a bitterly cold night to bring the history of the company up to date.

Here’s the open and close from the video:

ACHOO

Obviously, we create video projects because it’s our business.

It’s also nice if we can help people in the process, like with this 2007 project we did on allergies and asthma. The DVDs were created to help physicians explain the causes and cures for these ailments to their patients. We interviewed experts in each field, shot examples of medical treatment, showed people sneezing and coughing, discussed treatment options.

But as with many things in life there were unintended consequences.

One of the experts we interviewed, Dr. Asriani M. Chiu Associate Professor of Pediatrics Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, provided a very helpful interview, but it wasn’t until well after the project was over that she really saved the day.

A few months after the project was complete, my father complained that he had this nagging cough and it had gone on for months. Not constant but annoying.

I remembered Dr. Chiu saying during her interview that any cough that goes on for that long isn’t normal and something should be done. Even though my 83-year old father was a bit out of the “pediatric” years, Dr. Chiu took him on as a patient, changed his medication and three days later he called astonished that his cough had vanished.

He’s been symptom-free ever since and that little bit of knowledge we got from Dr. Chiu was a big improvement for both the DVD and my father’s health.

(Side note: During the interview, Dr. Chiu pointed out to us that she realizes that her name A. Chiu does seem too perfect for an allergy and asthma specialist.)
